Privacy Policy

Last updated: July 20, 2026

PDF Star doesn't collect your data — because it doesn't need to. Every PDF operation runs on your device. Nothing about your documents is uploaded, analyzed, or shared, and there's no account to create.

1. What this policy covers

This policy describes how PDF Star, an iOS, iPadOS, and Mac Catalyst app for creating and editing PDF documents, handles information. It applies to the app itself and does not cover third-party services you separately choose to interact with, such as sharing a file over Mail or AirDrop.

2. Data we collect

None. PDF Star does not operate any servers that receive your documents, your usage activity, or any personal information. There is no account system, no login, and no analytics pipeline built into the app.

The PDF files you create or import — merged, watermarked, signed, scanned, compressed, or password-protected — are stored only in the app's local storage on your device, organized into folders by the operation that produced them (Merged, Watermarked, Locked, and so on). They stay there unless you explicitly share, export, or delete them.

3. On-device processing

Every tool in the app — merging, splitting, watermarking, compressing, encrypting, e-signing, and OCR text recognition on scanned pages — runs entirely using Apple's on-device frameworks (PDFKit, Vision, VisionKit, PencilKit). No document content is ever transmitted off your device during these operations, with or without an internet connection.

4. Optional iCloud sync

If you choose to turn on iCloud sync in Settings, your document library is synced through Apple's CloudKit service to your own private iCloud account — the same private database model Apple uses for apps like Notes and Reminders. We do not have access to this data; it is encrypted and managed entirely within your Apple ID. Sync is off by default and can be turned off at any time.

5. Camera, photos, and Face ID

The app requests the following device permissions, each used strictly for the feature you invoke:

6. Payments

PDF Star Pro is a one-time, non-consumable in-app purchase processed entirely through Apple's StoreKit. Apple handles your payment method, billing, and receipt — PDF Star never receives or stores your card details, and purchase history is managed through your Apple ID, not by us.

7. Children's privacy

PDF Star does not knowingly collect information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect information at all. The app is rated appropriate for general audiences.

8. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes — for example, if a future version of the app adds a feature that involves data leaving your device — we'll update this page and the "Last updated" date above, and reflect the change in the app's release notes.
